ABOUT the course

Inside the Brauerize method.

A comprehensive course covering Michael Brauer's Brauerize© mixing method. Students will explore the origins of this methodology and the reasoning behind it, with references to its various incarnations that ultimately resulted in Michael's latest, fully in-the-box, approach.

The course will cover routing and signal flow, the famous A/B/C/D/E, Vocal, and additional busses, along with a comprehensive and detailed representation of Michael's entire effects section, from its delays and reverbs to its parallel processing.

Mix bus choices, VCAs, and automation workflow will also be covered in detail, providing students with the most comprehensive (and official) learning path to understand a mixing methodology that shaped countless award-winning records, eventually pushing the boundaries of analog and digital limitations.

The activities and discussions of this course will help the student develop and apply critical thinking toward the different aspects of this method and its template.

At the end of this course, students will be able to apply what they have learned to shape their own unique template and mixing workflows, enhancing and empowering their specific music mixing needs.

Frequently asked questions

Who is this course for?

This course is for anyone seeking a foundational understanding of all things audio—including studio recording, live sound, and post-production audio. If you want to reinforce these concepts, or figure out where you belong in all of it, Andrew Scheps is here to guide you through it.

I’ve taken some Audio Fundamentals classes in school. Will this course be similar?

While some concepts may overlap, this course is very different from a typical classroom audio fundamentals class. It's designed for anyone who wants a broad understanding of the core principles of audio production, as well as insight into the different professional paths in the industry. What sets this course apart is the instructor: world-renowned producer and engineer Andrew Scheps. Drawing on decades of experience, he shares both expert knowledge and personal perspective across a wide range of audio topics, giving you practical guidance that will strengthen your technical skills and creative approach.

How is the course structured?

The course is divided into four parts that build on each other to give you a complete foundation in audio. It starts with How We Work, which introduces professional workflow and industry context. Next, The Nature of Sound explores the science of sound and how it informs mixing decisions. Audio Electronics covers circuits, signals, and signal flow so you understand how audio moves through gear. Finally, Shaping Sound focuses on digital audio, signal processing, and microphone techniques, connecting technical knowledge to practical application. Each section combines theory, guided exercises, and real-world examples so you learn concepts and immediately understand how to use them in your own work.

Do I need to know what area of audio I want to pursue before taking this course?

Not at all! One of the main goals of this course is to help you understand the different sectors of the audio industry—including music production, post-production, and live sound—and how they connect. By exploring professional roles, workflows, and environments, you'll gain a clearer picture of where your interests and strengths may fit within the industry.

Is this course still relevant if I plan to work primarily in a home studio?

Yes. While the course explores traditional recording studio workflows, the concepts apply to audio production at every scale. Understanding professional roles, signal flow, project organization, and production processes will help you work more effectively whether you're recording in a commercial facility, a project studio, or your own home setup.

Why start with the audio industry before learning the technical side of audio?

Technical skills are most valuable when you understand the environments and workflows where they're applied. Course 1 provides the context for everything that follows by introducing the people, processes, and professional settings that shape audio production. By understanding how projects move from concept to completion, you'll be better prepared to see where technical concepts fit into real-world audio work and how they support larger creative and professional goals.

Can I access the entire course upon sign-up?

These courses are delivered in a guided, sequential format. Rather than unlocking everything at once, new lessons become available as you complete the previous ones. Because these courses are designed as a complete learning journey, each course builds on the material that came before it, which encourages steady progress and helps ensure that each concept is understood before moving on to more advanced topics.
